Description
Iron aventurine in conjunction with my iron bearing crystalline glaze combine to create a complex pattern of interaction. The primanry crystals are a delicate green with a pronounced holographic structure. The tones in the ground change subtly from the neck downward to the foot: dusky pink, cream and amber all set with pale green and tan secondary crystals.
The piece is thrown from one of my custom porcelain body fomulations, number 33. This porcelain gives particularly good crystal development with this glaze but is very labour intensive to produce. One of the components is a ball clay with a high lignite content. It must be sieved through a 35μm screen before incorporating into the recipie. Porcelain 53 is a variant that does not require as much processing, my next glaze firing will determine if it gives equally good results.
