Description
Iron aventurine and green gold zinc silicate crystalline.
This together with CUS use a variation of my gold and green crystalline glaze that produced too dark an effect out of the firing. Etching the glaze with hydrochloric acid has lightened the colour and enphasised the structure within the primary crystals. This glaze is only slightly susceptible to acid attach and it took a month submerged in acid to give this effect. In constrast, my glazes formulated for etching only need 4 hours of treatment. Etching has not changed the aventurine glaze, it has the usual glittering array of tiny golden crystals embedded within it.
