Description
Iron aventurine and iron gold crystalline glazes. A static image cannot convey the complexty of the aventurine. Underneath a surface layer of crystals there are numerous golden plates of iron oxide that reflect the light in tiny sparkles. The shoulder demonstrates the difference between the two glaze chemisties: the aventurine yeils suddenly to a fiery amber glassy region with rivulets that move downwards until the zinc silicate chemistry takes over.

This is an ultramacro image of one of my iron aventurine glazes. The largest bubbles are 0.2mm in diameter. The hexagonal plates of iron oxide give the glaze its characteristic sparkle.
